SOLAR WATER HEATING
Solar water heating is not new. Many thousands of
systems have been installed in the UK since the 1970`s and while the
majority of early systems continue to perform well a new generation of
commercially produced solar water heating systems has evolved. These
systems are capable of providing up to 70% of annual domestic hot water
requirements in the UK, dispelling the myth that there is “too little sun in the UK for solar to work”.
SOLAR HEATING FOR SWIMMING POOLS
Indoor and outdoor swimming pools too provide an ideal application for
solar heating systems. Collection efficiencies are high since pool heating
requires large volumes of water to be heated through a relatively small
temperature rise.
DIFFERENTIAL TEMPERATURE CONTROLLERS
Automatic control of most systems is by means of a differential temperature
controller that constantly monitors the temperature in the solar collector
(sometimes referred to as a solar panel) and compares it with the temperature
in the cylinder or pool return. When the collector is hotter (typically
6 deg C) than the store the controller switches on the circulating pump
and the heat is transferred.
